maize farming in morogoro

maize

There are two seasons in Tanzania: the dry winter season (May to October) when mainly vegetables and irrigated wheat are grown and the wet summer season (November to April) when maize and all other row crops are cultivated.

The RM HOLDINGS cultivate subsistence crops for local employees and their families (maize is the staple food in Tanzania, it is floured then boiled in hot water until it thickens like dough for eating), on the commercial side RM HOLDINGS cultivates seed maize with pre-planting contracts from the main seed companies in place. With a local price of roughly $170 per ton, commercial maize is not viable to grow at a large scale.
